WHAT'S MEASURED

CBC - Complete Blood Count

A CBC, or complete blood count, is a test that gives information about the 3 main types of cells in the blood. Red blood cells carry oxygen to your body. White blood cells fight infections. Platelets help clots form so you stop bleeding after you are injured. A CBC will show if your levels are low, normal, or high, and if your body is making new blood cells.

Fasting Blood Sugar

Blood sugar, or glucose, is the main sugar found in your blood. A fasting blood sugar test measures the amount of glucose in your blood when it should be at its lowest, when you haven’t had anything to eat or drink for a while. It is a simple, common blood test to screen for diabetes or prediabetes.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means it is absorbed along with fats in the diet and stored in the body’s fatty tissue and liver. Very few foods naturally contain vitamin D, so most of the vitamin D in the body is made by dermal synthesis — this happens when your skin is exposed to UVB rays from the sun.

Vitamin D plays an important role in the body because of its relationship to calcium and bone. Vitamin D deficiency is very common but can contribute to the development of issues like osteoporosis or bone fractures. Thus, treating Vitamin D deficiency is important for musculoskeletal health.

Calcium

Calcium is most often associated with healthy bones and teeth. It also plays an important role in blood clotting, helping muscles contract, and regulating heart rhythms and nerve functions.

Magnesium

Magnesium is important for many processes including regulating muscle and nerve function, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels, and making protein, bone, and DNA.

Sodium

Sodium helps the body contract and relax muscles, conduct nerve impulses, and maintain a proper balance of water and minerals.

Potassium

Potassium helps nerves function and muscles contract, helps the heartbeat stay regular, and moves nutrients into cells while moving waste out. Potassium also helps offsets some of sodium’s harmful effects on blood pressure.

Phosphorus

The main function of phosphorus is to form bones and teeth. It also plays an important role in how the body uses carbohydrates and fats, and makes protein for the growth and repair of cells and tissues.

Serum ferritin

Ferritin is a blood protein containing iron. A ferritin test shows how much iron your body stores.

If a ferritin test reveals low blood ferritin, this means your body’s iron stores are low and you have iron deficiency. If a ferritin test shows higher than normal levels, this could indicate a condition that causes your body to store too much iron. It could also indicate liver disease, rheumatoid arthritis, hyperthyroidism, or other inflammatory conditions. Some types of cancer can also cause blood ferritin to be high.

Serum iron

Serum iron is a laboratory test that measures the amount of circulating iron bound to transferrin and serum ferritin. Iron is an essential nutrient facilitating the creation of red blood cells that help pump oxygen throughout the body. Low iron levels can cause fatigue and weaken the immune system’s ability to fight off infections.

Creatinine eGFR

eGFR, or estimated glomerular filtration rate, is a measure of how well your kidneys are working. This test report gives a number showing the amount of creatinine in your blood.

SGOT (AST)

The SGOT test measures one of two liver enzymes, called serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase. SGOT is now usually called AST, which stands for aspartate aminotransferase. An SGOT (AST) test measures how much of this liver enzyme is in the blood. It may be used to help diagnose liver damage or liver disease.

SGPT (ALT)

SGPT (serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase), also known as ALT (alanine transferase), is an enzyme found in the liver and other tissues. A high level of SGPT In the blood may be a sign of liver damage, cancer, or other diseases.

BIL - Bilirubin

Bilirubin is a yellowish pigment made during the normal breakdown of red blood cells. It passes through the liver and is eventually excreted out of the body. Higher than normal levels of bilirubin may indicate liver of bile duct problems, or even an increased rate of destruction of red blood cells.

Uric acid

Uric acid is a waste product created when the body breaks down chemicals. Most uric acid dissolves in the blood, passes through the kidneys, and leaves the body in urine. If too much uric acid stays in the body, a condition called hyperuricemia can cause crystals of uric acid to form. These crystals can settle in the joints and cause gout, or settle in the kidneys and form kidney stones.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is necessary to make cells in the body. Total cholesterol is the total amount of cholesterol in the body, including specific biomarkers like LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and other smaller lipid molecules.

HDL

HDL, or high-density lipoprotein, is considered “good cholesterol” because it can carry cholesterol deposits away from arteries and back to the liver, where it is broken down and removed from the body.

LDL

LDL, or low density lipoprotein is one of the 6 major lipoproteins that carry cholesterol and triglycerides in the body. Maintaining low levels of LDL is proven to be clinically beneficial for preventing cardiovascular diseases.

Cholesterol/HDL Ratio

To calculate cholesterol ratio, divide total cholesterol by your HDL cholesterol number. If your total cholesterol is 200 mg/dL, for example, and your HDL is 50 mg,dL, your radio is 4-to-1. A higher ratio means a higher risk of heart disease.

Triglyceride

Triglycerides are the primary form of fat in the blood. Excessive levels of triglycerides may lead to organ damage in the liver and pancreas and may increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.

FSH

FSH, or follicle-stimulating hormone, helps control the production of sperm. FSH levels in men do not change very much, though they are usually low until puberty, when levels begin to rise.

LH

LH, or luteinizing hormone, causes the testicles to make testosterone, a hormone the body needs to produce sperm. LH levels in men do not change very much, though they are usually low in early childhood and begin to rise a couple years before the start of puberty.

Prolactin

Prolactin is a hormone secreted by the pituitary glands. In men, high levels of prolactin could cause decreased testosterone levels and lead to decreased energy and low sex drive in the short term, and decreased muscle mass and body hair in the long term. High prolactin levels can also cause erectile dysfunction, infertility, and, less commonly, secretion of milk from male breasts.

Testosterone

In people assigned male at birth (AMAB), testosterone is primarily produced by the testes, with a small amount produced by the adrenal glands. Free testosterone is not attached to proteins, whereas total testosterone includes free testosterone and testosterone that is bound to the proteins (e.g. albumin and sex hormone binding globulin) in the blood. While commonly regarded as the primary male sex hormone, testosterone is important for bone density, libido, body fat distribution, and supporting muscle mass across all sexes.

TSH

Thyroid-stimulating hormone, or TSH, is a hormone responsible for controlling the production of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4. TSH is considered the most effective marker for screening for thyroid diseases and conditions.

Free T3

T3, or triiodothyronine, is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It supports brain function, heart function, and digestion, and affects your metabolic rate and bone health. Levels of T3 fluctuate when individuals have an under- or overactive thyroid gland. A free T3 test measures the T3 that is floating free in the blood.

Free T4

T4, or thyroxine, is one of the two main hormones made by the thyroid gland. Together, T3 and T4 help determine the rate at which the cells in the body use energy. Levels of T4 fluctuate when individuals have an under- or overactive thyroid gland. A free T4 test measures the T4 that is floating free in the blood.

CRP (C-Reactive Protein)

CRP, or c-reactive protein, is made by the liver and sent into the bloodstream in response to inflammation. Inflammation is the body’s way of protecting tissues in case of injury or infection. It can cause pain, redness, and swelling in the affected area. Normally, there are low levels of c-reactive protein in the blood. High levels may be a sign of a serious infection or other disorder.
