A CBC, or complete blood count, is a test that gives information about the 3 main types of cells in the blood. Red blood cells carry oxygen to your body. White blood cells fight infections. Platelets help clots form so you stop bleeding after you are injured. A CBC will show if your levels are low, normal, or high, and if your body is making new blood cells.

Fasting Blood Sugar

Blood sugar, or glucose, is the main sugar found in your blood. A fasting blood sugar test measures the amount of glucose in your blood when it should be at its lowest, when you haven’t had anything to eat or drink for a while. It is a simple, common blood test to screen for diabetes or prediabetes.

Vitamin D

Calcium is most often associated with healthy bones and teeth. It also plays an important role in blood clotting, helping muscles contract, and regulating heart rhythms and nerve functions.

Magnesium is important for many processes including regulating muscle and nerve function, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels, and making protein, bone, and DNA.

Sodium helps the body contract and relax muscles, conduct nerve impulses, and maintain a proper balance of water and minerals.

Potassium helps nerves function and muscles contract, helps the heartbeat stay regular, and moves nutrients into cells while moving waste out. Potassium also helps offsets some of sodium’s harmful effects on blood pressure.

The main function of phosphorus is to form bones and teeth. It also plays an important role in how the body uses carbohydrates and fats, and makes protein for the growth and repair of cells and tissues.

Serum ferritin

Ferritin is a blood protein containing iron. A ferritin test shows how much iron your body stores.

If a ferritin test reveals low blood ferritin, this means your body’s iron stores are low and you have iron deficiency. If a ferritin test shows higher than normal levels, this could indicate a condition that causes your body to store too much iron. It could also indicate liver disease, rheumatoid arthritis, hyperthyroidism, or other inflammatory conditions. Some types of cancer can also cause blood ferritin to be high.

Serum iron

Serum iron is a laboratory test that measures the amount of circulating iron bound to transferrin and serum ferritin. Iron is an essential nutrient facilitating the creation of red blood cells that help pump oxygen throughout the body. Low iron levels can cause fatigue and weaken the immune system’s ability to fight off infections.

Creatinine eGFR

eGFR, or estimated glomerular filtration rate, is a measure of how well your kidneys are working. This test report gives a number showing the amount of creatinine in your blood.

The SGOT test measures one of two liver enzymes, called serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase. SGOT is now usually called AST, which stands for aspartate aminotransferase. An SGOT (AST) test measures how much of this liver enzyme is in the blood. It may be used to help diagnose liver damage or liver disease.

SGPT (serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase), also known as ALT (alanine transferase), is an enzyme found in the liver and other tissues. A high level of SGPT In the blood may be a sign of liver damage, cancer, or other diseases.

Bilirubin is a yellowish pigment made during the normal breakdown of red blood cells. It passes through the liver and is eventually excreted out of the body. Higher than normal levels of bilirubin may indicate liver of bile duct problems, or even an increased rate of destruction of red blood cells.

Uric acid

Uric acid is a waste product created when the body breaks down chemicals. Most uric acid dissolves in the blood, passes through the kidneys, and leaves the body in urine. If too much uric acid stays in the body, a condition called hyperuricemia can cause crystals of uric acid to form. These crystals can settle in the joints and cause gout, or settle in the kidneys and form kidney stones.

Cholesterol is necessary to make cells in the body. Total cholesterol is the total amount of cholesterol in the body, including specific biomarkers like LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and other smaller lipid molecules.

HDL, or high-density lipoprotein, is considered “good cholesterol” because it can carry cholesterol deposits away from arteries and back to the liver, where it is broken down and removed from the body.

LDL, or low density lipoprotein is one of the 6 major lipoproteins that carry cholesterol and triglycerides in the body. Maintaining low levels of LDL is proven to be clinically beneficial for preventing cardiovascular diseases.

Cholesterol/HDL Ratio

To calculate cholesterol ratio, divide total cholesterol by your HDL cholesterol number. If your total cholesterol is 200 mg/dL, for example, and your HDL is 50 mg,dL, your radio is 4-to-1. A higher ratio means a higher risk of heart disease.

Triglycerides are the primary form of fat in the blood. Excessive levels of triglycerides may lead to organ damage in the liver and pancreas and may increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.

FSH, or follicle-stimulating hormone, is a hormone that plays an essential role in the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles, ovulation, and the menstrual cycle. Baseline FSH levels usually increase with age due to a smaller ovarian reserve, as more FSH is needed over time to stimulate ovarian function. A normal FSH level may imply a person has an appropriate egg quantity for their reproductive stage.

LH, or luteinizing hormone, is a chemical that triggers important processes in the reproductive system. LH spurs ovulation and helps with hormone production necessary to support pregnancy. Abnormal LH levels may indicate fertility issues.

Prolactin is a hormone that causes the breasts to grow and make milk during pregnancy and after birth. Prolactin levels are normally high for pregnant women and new mothers, and normally low for nonpregnant women and men.

If prolactin levels are higher than normal, this often indicates a prolactinoma, a type of tumor of the pituitary gland. In women, excess prolactin can cause the production of breast milk while not pregnant or breastfeeding, menstrual problems, and infertility, or the inability to get pregnant.

Testosterone is a hormone produced by the adrenal cortex and the ovaries. Testosterone bound to proteins in the blood is called Total Testosterone. Certain medications, like birth control, can increase those proteins and bind more testosterone, leaving less Free Testosterone floating freely in the blood.

AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone)

AMH, or anti-mullerian hormone, corresponds to a person’s egg count. Higher AMH levels mean more eggs and a higher ovarian reserve, while lower AMH levels mean fewer eggs and a lower ovarian reserve.

Both men and women produce AMH, but healthcare providers frequently use the test in women to provide a snapshot of a woman’s reproductive health. Abnormal AMH levels may also indicate an ovarian mass called a granulosa cell tumor.

Estradiol is the main form of estrogen and is produced by the ovaries. It is one of the main sex hormones responsible for ovulation and is vital to reproductive health and pregnancy. Estradiol also plays a role in the development of bones and secondary sexual characteristics, as well as the functioning of the brain and reproductive system.

Progesterone is a hormone that helps maintain the endometrium, or lining of the uterus, and helps support pregnancy. When a person enters menopause and ovarian function declines, progesterone production significantly decreases.

Thyroid-stimulating hormone, or TSH, is a hormone responsible for controlling the production of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4. TSH is considered the most effective marker for screening for thyroid diseases and conditions.

T3, or triiodothyronine, is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. While there is less T3 than T4, T3 is considered more active. Together, these hormones help determine the rate at which every cell in the body uses energy. Levels of T3 fluctuate when individuals have an under- or overactive thyroid gland.

T4, or thyroxine, is the predominant hormone produced by the thyroid gland. Together, T3 and T4 help determine the rate at which the cells in the body use energy. Levels of T4 fluctuate when individuals have an under- or overactive thyroid gland.

CRP (C-Reactive Protein)

CRP, or c-reactive protein, is made by the liver and sent into the bloodstream in response to inflammation. Inflammation is the body’s way of protecting tissues in case of injury or infection. It can cause pain, redness, and swelling in the affected area. Normally, there are low levels of c-reactive protein in the blood. High levels may be a sign of a serious infection or other disorder.
